The Rotary International Districts 3770, 3780, 3790, 3800, 3810, 3820, 3830, 3850, 3860, and 3870 Rotaract Clubs made wonders as they vied for the most coveted titles in the Magic Badminton Cup ‘08 in Blue , September 28, 2008.
PDRR Mhon and Tolits Vierneza of San Pedro East (D3820) unleashed their prowess and rattled their closest opponents JR Arenas of Cabuyao Circle and Jolas Argana of San Pedro East to clinch the gold in Men’s Doubles Division.
It was a close fight but the former launched a series of magical drops and crashing smashes to cut the latter’s last thread of hope. A canto of the game was a see-saw rally of shuttlecocks that no one could forecast what would the outcome be. Another chapter was a landslide lead of Jolas-Jr Tandem over Mhon-Tolits partnership. At this moment, someone could make a premature conclusion that the former team would win.
But Jolas hurdled through a series of seven straight games before he encountered the worst nightmare of his badminton stint. Jolas happened to be part of another team that was a strong contender in the Mixed Doubles Division and due to fatigue he gave up and accepted the nipping result, 35-30 in favor of Mhon and Tolits.
Sir Paolo Rivera-Joffrey Po team (District 3810) settled for the bronze.
On the other side of the green court was the championship match between Nicole So-Gold Ong duo (District 3810) and DRR Megs Abarca – Allen Desquitado pair (District 3820).
At the start of the game, the District 3810 women showed a promising play courtesy of So’s long established badminton dexterity. However, So has gone through a chain of exhausting bouts before the ultimate finals that her momentum was stopped by DRR Meg’s equally powerful playing handiness. The last part of the match was dominated by twosome Meg-Allen who nailed the scoreboard at 35-28. Makati Women bagged the bronze.
PDRR Joanie Sitoy and her partner from D3820 won gold unmatched in the Mixed Doubles Division. Jolas (D3820) and Hazel (Cubao) ended satisfied with silver after conceding due to fatigue. Brother-sister Team Nicole and Norman So brought home the bronze.
DRR Megs and PDRR Mhon were given special awards for playing valuably in DRR’s Circle.
